OCCH established its first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) Committee in 2021 to identify and work toward various DEIB priorities. With a focus on four pillars – representation, education, allyship, and equitable impact – the Committee has moved the needle on a number of goals throughout the organization.
Notably, the DEIB committee, co-chaired by two members of the HR team, has revamped hiring practices to create a more inclusive environment and has conducted a pay equity audit to ensure that compensation practices are fair and equitable across the organization.
OCCH’s DEIB Committee also partnered with Project REAP’s Open Access program, to annually host a Fellow/Intern who is going through their real estate training series. Project REAP was established to open the doors of the commercial real estate industry to historically marginalized and underrepresented groups. OCCH is honored to be a part of this program.
In 2023, the DEIB committee launched the Equity Impact Fund in partnership with OCIC. This fund prioritizes partner-level grants by supporting new or existing initiatives designed to uplift and remove barriers for minority developers, residents, professionals, and other communities. Specifically, OCIC gave a $50k grant to the Corporation for Supportive Housing for BIPOC Developer Barrier research and development, a $30k grant to the Affordable Housing Alliance of Central Ohio for their BIPOC Homeownership Assistance Fund, a $5k grant to the Ohio Women’s Affordable Housing Network for their Scholarship Fund for Professional Development, and a $50k grant to Fifth Third Bank CDC for their Black Developer Initiative in Cincinnati.
